India Children’s Choir

POSTED: May 7, 2008

The musical "From Headhunters to Hearthunters" was presented by the "India Children's Choir" at Sherman First Baptist church Thursday evening May 1. The children have come from the hills of Manipur, India.to the United States, sponsored by "Bibles For The World." They are on an eight month tour, presenting the story of how in 1910 missionary WatkingRoberts sent the Gospel of John to a Hmar chief. The chief invited Roberts to come and explain the Scriptures. He went despite a travel ban by the British Colonial rulers, and hearing God's Word, five young tribesmen chose to follow the Lord Jesus. The converts grew in faith and became leaders of a new and growing church. Within two generaions, the entire tribe was evangelized. Their Headhunting stopped and "hearthunting" began. They now carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ to their neighboring tribes and the regions beyond. The members of the India Children's Choir are the heirs of those who first believe.

"Bibles for the World," founded by Dr. Rochunga Pudaite and his wife Mawii, sponsor the choir's tour. Dr. Pudaite made the Hmar tribe language into a written language and then translated the Bible into their language. Thus all the Himar tribe now has a Bible in their own language.

The children and the adults that accompany them on the tour, stayed with members and friends of the Baptist church on Thursday night after the concert. The following morning after breakfast they met at the church for a time of singing and devotions after which they had schoolibng. Lunch was served to them and then they boarded their bus and headed out to the destination where they would present their concert that evening.
