On Saturday, the undefeated Dragons slugged out a 14-12 non-region win over Jamestown, N.Y., to improve to 16-0.
“It was like a boxing match with guys going toe to toe and slugging it out,” said Warren coach Jeff Passaro, whose Dragons need one more region win to clinch the Region 5 title. They play at General McLane on Monday.
“It would be great to be undefeated, but we’re not doing it any different than we would have for the first game of the year,” said Passaro of his pitching rotation and starting lineup.
Mark Crossley started his fourth game of the season Saturday and the Dragons used four pitchers in all.
Warren trailed 8-5 after three innings and 8-7 after four, but scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Matt Abplanalp was in the game second for Warren and got the win, but Casey Moyer threw the 1 2/3 innings without and earned run and Connor English threw a scoreless inning for the save.
“It was nice to get the bats going, especially when we needed them,” said Passaro. “They’re a good team. (Jamestown hits) the ball, no doubt about it.”
Warren’s Jeff Eaton was 3 for 5 with three doubles, Moyer 2 for 5, Dunn 3 for 5, Crossley 3 for 4 and Brandon Schott 2 for 5. In all, the Dragons had 15 hits.
