Dominant win over Girard

LAKEWOOD, N.Y. — If you're going to end a high school season right, a shutout is a good way to go.

The 7-3 Warren Dragons won by a 5-0 count over visiting Girard Monday in possibly the Dragons' final boys tennis match of the season, held at the Lakewood Family YMCA due to the weather.

"As of right now, all of their schedule is completed. Overall you cannot be unhappy with a 5-0 victory where you only give up four games," said Warren first-year coach Travis Myler.

In addition to a 10-3 singles win by Warren No. 1 Sam Birgel and 10-0 win by No. 2 Troy Burns.

"Four boys picked up their first varsity win of the year and they all did it in dominating fashion," said Myler.

Christian Bailey won 10-1 at No. 3 singles, Matt English and Kurt Pierson teams to win 10-0 at No. 2 doubles, and Andrew Shodi got his first win by teaming with his older brother, senior, Adrian Shodi, 10-0 at No. 1 doubles.

"It was important for Andrew to play with his brother for one match of the year," said Myler. Adrian is normally a singles standout.

Adrian Shodi, Birgel, Joel Nowacki and Ryan Douvlas are Warren's only seniors.

Warren's only loss against a like-Class AA school was against Region 2 champion Fairview.

"That's a strong team right there, so you can't be disappointed losing to them...," said Myler. "My boys really showed their mettle. I'm happy with all the contributions of the seniors."
