"Thank You" letter for WCK
We wish to extend our deepest appreciation for all the dedicated hours and funds donated to the Westfield Community Kitchen (WCK), which make fulfilling our mission possible.
When I joined the WCK, I was looking for a worthwhile, time-consuming volunteer job, hoping to maintain older friendships, meet new people and be useful. I have found all of that and more, continually gratified by the generosity of our community. How amazing to arrive at the soup kitchen and be greeted by 36 dozen eggs, or a tray filled with tomatoes and cucumbers. Then there's the person who asks if she might bake a cake for us and drops it off. An organization of young people assembled 27 frozen chicken casseroles, ready to be baked and served to our clients.
The Westfield community has been very generous with cash donations as well as other items necessary to our operation, such as paper products, storage materials, etc. Further, The Chautauqua Rural Ministry adds to our pantry monthly. Of special note is the Westfield First United Methodist Church. The church members have invited us to use their kitchen as if it were our own. We thank them for their hospitality as well as the wonderful help offered by each church member we encounter.
Having volunteers who schedule a day every week to prepare and serve meals as well as clean up is an accomplishment in itself. Many hands are needed to ease this job. Happily, friendships form among the volunteers who greatly aid by sharing concerns and offering solutions.
Our clients are our family as well and we try to adapt our menus to their tastes and suggestions. Everyone in the community is invited to attend and a monetary donation box is available for contributions from those who can.
The Board of Directors meets once a month to keep our kitchen running smoothly. Always on the agenda are the rules and regulations to be followed, grants to be applied for, as well as the budget to be maintained. We are grateful to our board and volunteers as well for the extra hours and effort needed for fundraising. All of these people share a vast amount of helpful experience and the teamwork truly is remarkable; even when we are tired, the friendship, laughter and good times persist.
So, we send many thanks to all who help us and invite all others who are interested to join our effort in any way you are able and see fit: volunteering, donating, or joining us for meals.
Our Westfield Community Kitchen is open to serve Monday and Friday from 11:30 to 12:30 and Wednesday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Westfield United Methodist Church. Our phone number at the "Kitchen" is 326-2055 for additional information.
One final thought: "Always believe something wonderful is about to happen."
