The Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds and Maple Grove Lady Red Dragons square off this Friday in CCAA West 1 girls high school basketball. Halftime activities will benefit cystic fibrosis research. Jayvee is slated for 6 p.m. and varsity will follow, roughly around 7:30 p.m. in the Chautauqua Lake competition gym. Team members researched the chronic disease, which touched a local family last year. The Thunderbird Athletic Club will conduct a raffle and 50/50 drawing, while student athletes and their families hold a bake sale and halftime games. Proceeds will support the search for a cure to cystic fibrosis, a genetic lung disorder that affects the pancreas and other organs, as well as providing information on how to treat and live with this chronic disease. Sporting shirts announcing the event are coach Bill Persons, left, and Lady Thunderbirds.
