Rebecca H. Raven, 69, of 169 Miller St., Sherman, N.Y., passed away Feb. 10, 2017, at her home.
She was born March 20. 1947, in Nassawadox, Va., the daughter of the late Robert and Orvella Q. Quillen Overchuk Hurdle.
She was involved in many community activities, including, Scouting both Boy and Girl Scouts, baby sat for the teachers' children at Findley Lake Elementary School, and was active throughout the years with childrens activities. All the neighborhood kids felt welcome at her and Howard's home, they loved Becky like a second mother. They could sit down and eat at their table at anytime.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Acacia Chapter # 96 in Sherman, N.Y., and a Life member of the Chautauqua Lake Memorial VFW #8647 Ladies Auxiliary. Becky was involved in the Findley Lake Volunteer Fire Department. She was really proud when she earned her GED. She had worked at Peak 'N' Peek as a waitress making many lifelong friends, then a cook at the Country Classic, and then moved on to Keystone Foods as a lab technician, in quality control. Then worked at Better Baked Foods in North East, Pa., and Westfield, N.Y., working in quality control and developing new products, until she was forced into retirement due to health issues. Becky enjoyed playing the popcorn lady at Crossroads and painting rocks she sold and gave to friends and relatives. She loved to play cards, including "500" club, reading and Christian music, and traveling across the country with her husband, Howard, visiting relatives from the south to the west and especially riding motorcycle. And everyone liked her southern fried chicken.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Raven of Sherman, whom she married June 18, 1971; her children, Robert (Annie) Tabor and Beth (John) Kaminski, both of Norfolk, Va., and Jason (Soraya) Raven, of Lithia, Fla., and Jeremiah (Molly Brown) Raven, of Sherman, N.Y.; grandchildren, Alex, Zachary and Spencer Tabor, Casey Kaminski, Howard T. and Michael Q. Raven, J. Willy Raven and Rebecca A. Raven; great-nephew, Jacob Duckworth, and great-niece, Heather Roper; her stepmother, Josephine Hurdle; stepsister, Jane Castle; and stepbrother, Austin (Teresa) Smith; and her special friends, Cindy Wengerd and Kristina Byler.
Family and friends were received from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at the Sherman Community Church 109 Church St. Sherman, N,Y., and after visitation an Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #96 Service was held at 3 p.m. with the funeral service following with Pastor Steve Kilburn, officiating. Burial was at the convenience of the family.
