Mayville seniors hold January, February meetings

About 45 Seniors met at the VFW in Mayville on February 2, 2017. We enjoyed delicious soups, sandwiches and desserts plus extras! Dianne Goodrich told us a couple stories, then led the Lord's Prayer. Joyce Ayers, Vice President, led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the Secretary and Treasurer Reports. Mary Carlson listed February birthdays and anniversaries. She mailed several cards to members. The kitchen committee composed of Louise Richir, Dolly Gilbert, and Nancy Peters were thanked. New members, Susan and Drew Heitzenrater were welcomed as well as guests Del Stage, Donna Stage, and Louise Strickland. Door prizes donated by Jim Kurtz and Janet Loomis were won by Barb Witherow and Lois Maloy.

We were entertained by guest speaker, James Dorr from Bemus Point, NY. who is a retired Head Taxidermist from the Buffalo Museum of Science. His stories were amazing! We loved him!

Our next meeting is scheduled February 16, 2017 at noon at the VFW in Mayville. Carl and Barb Witherow Country Band with entertain us playing and singing your favorite old time country music! Come join us! Bring a dish to pass and your own place setting.

Mayville Senior Citizens Meeting held January 19

About 50 Senior Citizens met January 19 at the Mayville VFW. After lunch, Bonnie Johnson opened the meeting and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Dianne Goodrich told two stories, Breaking the Law and Apron History and then led all in the Lord's Prayer. The secretary and treasurer's reports were read and accepted. Mary Carlson listed the January birthdays and anniversaries and stated she mailed several cards to members.

Dianne Goodrich swore in the Assistant Treasurer, Ruth Neal; Secretary, Fran Miller; and 2nd Vice President, Wanda Gustafson as they were absent last meeting.

The kitchen committee was thanked. Bonnie welcomed one new member, Earlene Propheter, and one guest, Mollie Boardman. Door prizes were won by Linda Taylor, Rex Wilson, Jeff Wagner and Pat Cook. Two of the door prizes were "Town of Chautauqua Hometown Heroes" booklets, published by James Kurtz and donated by James Kurtz.

Following the meeting we were entertained by Karl Lydell, guitar player and singer from Jamestown, New York. We could have listened to him all afternoon, he was wonderful!

Our next meeting will be a soup, salad and dessert luncheon on February 2, 2017 at noon at the Mayville VFW. If you don't bring either there is a charge of $4.00. Please bring your own place setting. We will be entertained by guest speaker, Mr. James Dorr from Bemus Point. Jim is a retired Head Taxidermist from the Buffalo Museum of Science. He will share some of his very interesting experiences while working there for many years. Don't miss this excellent program. You will be amazed at the size of some the animals and the work he did to preserve them with his talent as a taxidermist!
